Poem

Your presence came .. With such surprise
Standing before me .. Tears filled your eyes
I asked myself .. Get involved let you stay
Or leave you there .. Perhaps you'll just go away
So young so small .. You seem so frail
Your mothers gone .. She's left no trail
There is no living with myself .. By closing the door
As leaving you there would settle no score
I picked you up .... I held you tight
Please stop your cry ... I'll give it a try
I brought you in .... Let go the pain
Never worry my friend ... We both had gain
You bring such joy .. We share our time
Leaving you there would have been a crime
Our lives are rich .. You now belong
I hope you like .... We named you Song

This poem was written and dedicated to a once young girl "lets just say her name is me"

At the time our family lived in the country, there was nothing like a pet store close by to help us feed this fragile situation, a neighbor gave a recipe that we could use to help this tiny life regain its strength.  In today's standards this formula  is not considered the best replacement for mother's milk, and modern technology can offer a more balanced formula for kitty, but for those in a pinch and may one day face this similar situation, this recipe may help.  My kitty lived to almost twelve and was healthy in every way.

Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 can condensed evaporated milk (unsweetened)
  • 2 tbsp. plain yogurt
  • 2 tsp. mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp. Karo syrup (light)
  • 1 pkg. Knox gelatin
  • 1 cup Pedialyte (unflavored)
  • 1 egg yolk (no whites)
  • 1-2 jars pureed baby food (chicken/turkey)

Instructions
  • Mix well milk, yogurt, mayonnaise, baby food, and syrup together (set aside)
  • Bring to boil 1 cup Pedialyte then mix in gelatin (set aside)
  • In a separate bowl beat egg yolk and add to milk mixture
  • Add gelatin mixture to milk/egg mixture beat well all ingredients
  • Place well mixed formula into a bowl and cover, pop into fridge or you might try this, place formula in ice cube trays and freeze the formula (take only what you need)

Formula should last about two weeks
Warm mixture (not to warm) then feed kitty

My kitty was abandoned by its mother, hanging on with only a small glimmer of hope for its survival, this is not the case for the many homeless kitty's running wild in our streets today however. Lets discuss the differences between what is considered a stray kitty and which is considered a feral kitty.

A stray kitty is more likely to allow your touch as at one time in their life they were somewhat domesticated, a feral kitty has never known such touch and will behave wild in their manner, please use caution with your approach to any stray whether you know these differences or not.

Before you consider bringing any kitty into your home it is strongly recommended that your first course of action be a visit to the Vet's, this will ease your mind and get the answers to the questions you will have regarding kitty's health.  No matter the upbringing a healthy kitty is a happy kitty.

Thousands of people around the world work together to reduce the numbers of feline homelessness, such organizations seek responsible foster parents who will love and care for kitty cats.  Check out your local Pet Rescue Agencies, lets do our part and save kitty.
